& Beliefs Old Fort is a Southern Baptist Church
serving the Summerville area through the Screven Baptist Association, while
serving the world through the cooperative efforts of the Southern Baptist
Convention. We are committed to carrying out the work of the body of Christ
which is outlined in Ephesians 4:1 1-12: "And he gave some apostles; and
some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work
of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ."
We believe that the Bible is the Word of God divinely inspired and serves as an authoritative standard for every life in every age. (2 Timothy 3:16-17) We believe that the Godhead exists eternally in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit and these three are one God. (I Peter 1:2) We believe that though all people are sinners, God by His sovereign choice and out of love for all, sent Jesus Christ into the world that all the world might be saved. (John 3:16) We believe that such salvation comes only through the grace of God as shown by the death of Jesus Christ and is presented as a free gift for all those who wish to choose it. Salvation is entirely separate from good works, baptism, or church membership. (Ephesians 2:8-9) We believe that every believer becomes a new creature in Christ and
must strive to grow in Christ through obedience to His will and surrender
to His Lordship. (2 Corinthians 5:17) We are committed to being: 1) a dynamic spiritual body empowered by the Holy Spirit to share Christ with as many people as possible in our church, community, and throughout the world; 2) a worshiping fellowship, experiencing an awareness of God, recognizing His person and responding in obedience to His leadership; 3) a church which ministers unselfishly to persons in the community and the world in Jesus' name; 4) a church whose purpose is to be Christlike in our daily living by emphasizing total commitment of life, personality and possessions to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. |
