Missionaries to Africa
October Prayer Requests

Monday Oct. 1 Please continue praying for the Hickmans. At this writing the doctors have done all they can do and have sent Mr. Hickman home. His condition has remained unchanged and their children are taking turns staying the nights with them to assist. Hospice and a home care nurse are coming in regularly.

We are in the middle of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan so during the first half of this month I am including prayer items for the Muslims in Central, Easter, and Southern Africa (CESA). Along the Eastern African coast, 450 secondary school girls heard a presentation that encourages them to follow God’s plan for their lives regarding sexuality.  Purity is essential to decrease the spread of HIV/AIDS, preventing pregnancy, as well as protecting their relationship with a future husband.  Please pray that these girls after hearing this message would be open to meeting their true love, Jesus Christ, and forever be pure in God’s eyes.

Tuesday Oct. 2 An unreached people group of central Tanzania believes that when someone lives on the top of their sacred mountain it will be the end of the world.  Along with these traditional beliefs this people group mixes Islamic beliefs.  Please pray that they will hear the Good News and that one day they will worship the True God on top of that mountain.

Wednesday Oct. 3 A shepherdess tending her lambs by leading them to still water to drink.  She protects them from harm and heals their wounds.  She is from a shepherd family yet she doesn’t know the Lord as her Shepherd.  Would you pray for those like this desert jewel to come to an awareness of God, her great Shepherd?  Will you pray Psalms 23 for these women of Eastern Africa

Thursday Oct. 4  Please pray for the Muslims of Reunion. Larger cities on the island have a mosque.  Many of the Muslims seem to have an ethnicity that isn't of Reunion descent and currently there are no Christian workers working among them. Pray that God will faithfully send workers to share Christ to this far away Island.

Friday Oct. 5 Pray for new Muslim background believers attending groups throughout the Great Lakes cluster. Pray that they will not turn back on their new beliefs and will continue to attend training sessions. Pray that as they learn more about the Way, they will be able to give answers to Muslim family members who question them about what they are learning.

Saturday Oct. 6 Thank God for all He is doing among the Mwera people of Tanzania.  Please pray for the new Muslim background believers that they will stand firm in their new faith in spite of persecution.

Sunday Oct. 7 In one South African city there are several Muslim background believers that need prayer as they choose to follow Christ in spite of withdrawal from extended family, difficulties to support themselves, troubled teenagers, and an unknown future.  Please pray that these MBBs would experience God as their Heavenly Father as He provides, sustains and leads them.  Ask that God would use them mightily to multiply their faith in others.

Monday Oct. 8 The Sambaa live in fear of rainmakers or ancestors.  Pray that they would only fear the Lord.  Please pray that truth be revealed to the Sambaa and that their hearts would be drawn to Jesus.  Ask God to strengthen the Sambaa believers that they may understand and share the love of God with others.

Tuesday Oct. 9 October 9th (the 27th night of Ramadan) is the "Night of Wonders" this year.  It is the night that Muslims believe God gave the Koran to Mohammed.  Many believe it is the night that God is most accessible to them and that on this night God Himself hears prayers directly or through the angel Gabriel.  Pray that God will stir up many CESA Muslims to be "God Seekers"- that they will seek the Truth.  Please pray that they will have visions and dreams that point them to Jesus as the one whom they have been seeking and as Savior.

Wednesday Oct. 10 In the matriarchal society of an Indian Ocean island at the birth of a baby girl her family begins the foundation of what will someday be her home.  Throughout her life the family occasionally adds to the house which must be completed before she marries.  This provides a sense of security for the women of this culture.  Please pray that these women would truly sense that their security can only come through Jesus Christ.  Pray that this society would realize that Jesus is the only trustworthy foundation on which to build a beautiful life.

Thursday Oct. 11 Although there are a few believers among the Makhuwa people of Tanzania, many mix their traditional beliefs with Islam.  Pray for leaders and gatekeepers to allow free access to the Gospel for every Makhuwa.  Pray that those who know and understand the true Word of God would be bold to teach that truth.  And ask God that many would come to know Jesus Christ as their Savior.

Friday Oct. 12 Praise the Lord for the open doors that missionaries across CESA have in sharing their faith with Muslim peoples.  Pray that every opportunity would be utilized and that they would boldly share the claims of Christ in an understandable way.

Saturday Oct. 13 As Muslims across CESA break their fast and celebrate, please pray that they recognize the emptiness of their faith and they would want to know more about Jesus.

Sunday Oct. 14 Pray for Katelyn as she struggles with her Creative Writing thesis book. She has been questioning her choice of topic, her time in Africa, and needs to come up with a conflict or major theme. Pray that God will guide her in this project so that she can be a testimony at her school.

Monday Oct. 15 Please continue to pray about the staff situation at Kid’s Fort. It has been difficult finding workers due to the low pay and short hours. Pray that God would call those who would see this as more than a job but also as a ministry to the kids and families.

Tuesday Oct. 16 Praise the Lord for a great time at Rock the Universe in Orlando, FL and for the safe travel there and back.

Wednesday Oct. 17 Pray for Pam as she goes to get another X-ray. Even though Dr. Ramsey did not see the kidney stone back in August he wants a three month follow up to be sure it is gone.

Thursday Oct. 18 The International Mission Board has personnel requests in or in process for the following People Groups in Tanzania: Ngoni (Songea); Gogo (Kongwa); Rangi (Kondoa); Kuria (Tarime). Continue to pray that God will call out laborers for these harvest fields and others that He knows of better than we.

Friday Oct. 19 Praise the Lord for the new safari that the members of Life Trek have begun. The new discipleship class only has a few who have chosen to come but pray that God would impact their lives greatly for the kingdom work He has for them.

Saturday Oct. 20 Continue to pray for our dear friends from Kenya that returned due to the husband’s brain tumor. He has left the hospital and is going through therapy. He is only in his 30’s or 40’s and has been affected as if he had had a stroke. However, they are daily praising God for sparing his life.

Sunday Oct. 21 Pray for the Kid’s Fort Committee as they meet and discuss important issues that they will make godly decisions about how things are done for this ministry.

Monday Oct. 22 Pray for Pam as there is no school in this school district so it is a full day at Kid’s Fort. Pray for safety as they take a field trip and do other fun activities.

Tuesday Oct. 23 Pray for Women On Mission groups that meet all over the country. Pray that they will find the right balance of learning about, praying for, giving to, and doing missions.

Wednesday Oct. 24 Pray that as Pam sees Dr. Ramsey today that he would be satisfied with what he finds and give her a clean bill of health.

Pray for the junior and senior Creative writing majors at Charleston County School of the Arts as they head to Lake Logan for their Creative writing retreat.

Thursday Oct. 25 Pray that as the seniors, Katelyn included, share their senior thesis ideas that they will be well received and that Katelyn will have a calmness of spirit as she presents hers.

Friday Oct. 26 Pray for the Creative Writing group as they return to Charleston today.

Saturday Oct. 27 Pray for the church planting project in Tanzania and the national missionaries as they continue to sacrifice more than we can imagine to spread the gospel and start more churches.  Ask God to double the thirty groups in the next two years.

Sunday Oct. 28 Recently the book of Mark has been translated into the Zigua heart language.  Please pray that the translation projects will continue well and that those who translate will be godly men who are filled with the Holy Spirit.  Please pray that God will continue to prepare hearts to receive His Good News.  Pray that these limited copies of Mark will get to people who are seeking Truth.

Monday Oct. 29 Praise the Lord with us as we have seen two professions of faith as a direct result of the Outreach Program at Doorway Baptist Church.

Tuesday Oct. 30 A new batch of missionaries have just arrived on the field. Please pray for their emotional and physical adjustments and for them as they begin their language studies that they will quickly learn the language they need to know to work and minister in their respective countries.

Wednesday Oct. 31 Pray for Pam and Kid’s Fort as today is another Early Release day where they have to share their facilities with another group. Pray that the activities during this longer day will be fun and up lifting to the children.
